Funds raised for our short film series on climate change in West Africa supported draught-resistant agricultural tools and technologies for communities in Mali, Niger, and Mauritania through our NGO partner Groundswell International.

This month, all donations to SMALL WORLD FILMS will be supporting our latest project THE BURNING.
Raising awareness is only the first step in our fight to defend the basic human rights of all humans - including the more than 120 million who have been forced to flee their homes in the past year.
As we bring this critical story to audiences around the world, we will be working with our NGO partners to (1) improves the lives of millions of refugees who no longer have a safe place to call home, (2) run a mobile screening series that brings untold stories to communities that lack access to multimedia technology across Africa, and (3) lead an educational series that brings an innovative curriculum on human rights into university classrooms across the United States, Europe, and Africa. Every dollar donated to THE BURNING supports these three goals.

When I first read about this film, I called my assistant and asked him to invite the director to join me for lunch. I had to know more. I learned that Isabella has a long history of work uncovering human rights abuses around the world, and with THE BURNING, she brings our attention to a part of the world that is often overlooked. She has a unique style of storytelling that reminds us that even in the millions, there is still the story of one. I believe THE BURNING will succeed in humanizing the stories of individual refugees, and in doing so, it will make it harder for us to turn away from Africa's refugee crisis - the single largest refugee crisis in our world today. The director of this film is one of her generation's leading voices in the fight for civil and human rights. She has more heart, more brains, more courage, and more determination than any other young leader who I have had the privilege of meeting, and it has been a great honor for me to work alongside her on THE BURNING.
